To prepare for this whole-class review, program a supply of seasonal cutouts
with basic division problems. Also, label a different mailing envelope with each
quotient and post the envelopes around the room. To complete the activity, give
each student a supply of cutouts and, at your signal, have him deliver the
cutouts to the corresponding envelopes. When all cutouts have been delivered,
remove them from one envelope at a time and determine with students if the
cutouts were correctly placed. Then review any misplaced problems.

Division concepts
To prepare this class game, write a division problem on the
board; then assign each student one of two strategies to solve it, such as repeated
subtraction or drawing a picture. On your signal, direct students to use their
assigned strategies to solve the problem and then turn their papers over. When all
students appear to be done, call on one student from each strategy group to reveal
his results to the class. If both students reveal the same correct quotient, award
the class a point. Write a new problem on the board and continue in this manner
until a predetermined number of points have been awarded.
Multidigit dividend, single-digit divisor
Share the mnemonic device "Division Monsters Smell Bad" to help students
remember to divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down. Then provide time to sing
this catchy tune.
